Post subject: | FYI: turbocharged power |
My CTS is in the shop to get the emergency brake fixed. They lent me a 2015 ATS, 2.0L 4 cylinder, turbocharged...it has 272 hp and 295 lb-ft of torque. It really has amazing acceleration. I'm sure it has appropriate gearing, it really winds up (redline is 7k), but boy I'm really impressed with how much power they can squeeze out of a four cylinder engine. I wouldn't trade it for my 3.6L V6 with direct injection (especially since mine is a T6 manual), but still, wow. You boost guys must really enjoy your slants....I may enter your realm when I retire and have more time to devote to my slanty...must be thrilling when the slant turbo or boost is doing it's thing, so to speak. brian[/i] |

The 3.6L ATS-V has a twin turbo, 464 hp, 445 lb-ft of torque. 0-60 in 3.8 secs. The CTS-V, turbo V8 has 640 hp and 0-60 in 3.7 sec....so, nearly 200 more hp, lots more weight, and only 0.1 sec of time gained. |

I had an S2000 once. It had a NA 250HP four cylinder. That was until I super charged it and made over 800. Then this happened..... |

It is! Pretty unbelievable too as you'd need over 35 psi boost to get there.

Was "800" a mistype? I could see 500hp with a big turbo and a lot of boost, but the superchargers on those K20, K24, H22, B18, etc., don't make enough boost to support 800hp. Not to mention it looks like the stock exhaust is hanging out the back still... |

800HP was not a typo. I had the kit ordered and instaled at stirling honda in Longview when I worked there. After it was on I went to PIR to have it dinoed and it made just over 800 at the wheels on 15Lbs of boost. As of the "stock" exhaust, its not. Yes those are the stock tips but nothing else is. Also the S2000 engine is not a K20 K24 H22 or a B18. Its a F22C1. This motor was designed just for the s2000 and is not used in any other model. |

Right... So you took a 240 horse engine with 11:1 compression, slapped a 'supercharger' (please elaborate, type, brand? Inquiring minds want to know! ) on it with 15psi, which, theoretically speaking, would double the power. That is before losses because of heat, the power to drive it, etc. And then made 800hp! Betcha that took a lot of stickers. And while I am now spitballing, I'm gonna assume that was through a factory trans and rear too. Those are stock wheels. Betcha it was hard to find tires that would hold all that power! Well call me Thomas... |

The F20/F22 engines are pretty amazing and have a very high specific output. As such there is little that can be done aside from forced induction to make substantial power gains. Thermodynamics being laws and all means 1 atmosphere boost at a higher temperature than ambient will provide less than double the air density. To burn 800hp worth of fuel in a 240hp engine requires 3 and 1/3 times the air density. |

I could care less if you dont believe me. I know what I have done in my life and I dont need to prove myself to you to make myself feel better. |

If in doubt, try YouTube! Things happen fast these days, advanced computer technology make output up to 12-1300 HP from various japanese engines fairly common. Olaf |

Looks like horsepower production far exceeded driver talent. I've got a buddy with a turbo S-2000 he races Super Stock with. It is the fastest SS car in the land as of right now. It has gone 7:80's. |

Post subject: | high HP from a 4 banger |
I don't doubt Nic's numbers, GM pushed 1000 HP out of their ecotec 4 banger. http://www.thecarconnection.com/tips-ar ... to-1000-hp brian |

the article says they used 40 pounds of boost to get 1000 hp... I'd be interested to hear how Honda got 800 hp with much lower pressure. Did they use some super high volume or something? brian |
