| Post subject: | Engine knock |
Well I have developed a knock of some sort. Started it up this morning and knocked kinda loud 3 times and didnt knock after that. Then very faint came back. Seems to be at the very back of the engine. The knock goes away off idle and only knocks at idle. Or atleast its not loud enough to hear off of idle. It pretty much ddisappears when warmed up. Iv had engine knocks before and have had spun rod bearings from my personal vehical to seeing them on heavy trucks at work. But this kinda has me puzzled. As always thanks you guys are and have been great. Also pulled number 6 plug wire and kinda quited down, put back on and was still quiet. |

Any chance it could be a broken exhaust hanger. Exhaust shaking and smacking the floor board or rear shock? |

No checked engine and trans mounts. Its loudest underneath at the rear of the cab not under the hood. |

Automatic trans vehicle? Flex Plate bolts coming loose or a cracked FP? Time to pull the TC dust cover or starter, to take a look... DD |

No its a 4 speed. I pulled the cover and its loudest at the clutch or the back of the engine. Just has me puzzled of what it is. Clutch seems fine. |

I had a starter that the nylon parts on the starter gear broke allowing the gear to slide in contact with flywheel ring gear when starter was not engaged. |

Flywheel bolts very well may have come loose. That is why I had the lock plates made up. I have had the flywheel come loose on me a couple times. Rick |

My last slant ('63 Canadian Valiant) did exactly the same. I figured it was the death knock. But after about 2 years, I figured it was the lack of oil pressure on cold start up. I had visions of trashed main bearings and expensive repairs, but none of that ever materialized. The slant just knocked on cold start up and is probably still doing the same today. |

Actually it must have went away. I dont hear it anymore like I did. I thought somthing was comming loose in the clutch but seems to be fine. When I was checking things over I noticed abot 7degrees of timing chain slop. |
