Anybody made this conversion before and have any suggestions? Car is 62 Valiant, I want to clean up the underside cable maze underneath, originality is of no concern. I have buckets so the center tunnel spaceis available, and I'm getting ready to convert to rear discs, and want to have e brake solution sorted out. Any ideas? |

I put the later Mopar A-Body, under dash "cane" type e-brake handle in my 62 and that conversion was pretty easy... DD |

Not familiar with the '62 cable routing. Does it use two seperate cables from the backing plates, or is it one long one from backing plate to backing plate, and routed forward to an equalizer/adjuster? Either way, one should be able to snag a pull handle from about anything in the local yard and mount it to your floor in an appropriate spot. On my T, the floor handle came out of a Geo Metro. It was an easy run from the backing plates to the adjuster attached to the ratchet pawl. One could even hang garage door extension spring pulleys underneath to aid in neat routing solutions. Roger |

I plan on doing this on my '60 Valiant when time permits......in the mean time I collected everything I need to do this from an '89 Dodge Omni.....The-brake handle even looks retro in my opinion! should work out great for you as well......but don't get discouraged if you can't find an Omni or Horizon.....should be plenty other front wheel drive Mopars like Neons and PT Cruisers to salvage the parts from and cheap too! |

Just a note that might be worth stashing away: Volvos prior to about 1975 had a lift-lever type handbrake mounted outboard of the driver's seat. Nice location for it, especially if one has a car with the brake cable already routed up the left side of the car. |
