On my 225 I rebuilt a holley 1920. It's list number says it's from 1963. This is on my 65 valiant. I noticed when car is warm and during idle. Choke flap is completely vertical. It has some free slop to close it and actually runs better and rpms raise a bit. If I go passed the free play and pull against the vacuum piston it runs even a hair better.

Is there some sort of adjustment. Or is there another problem I'm overlooking. Thanks

Are you saying that the engine runs better when hot if you close the choke?

If so, then you either (a) have a vacuum leak or (b) are running lean for some other reason. Try adjusting the curb idle mixture.

No intake leak that I can find. Mixture screw is set with vacuum gauge. Could a bad pcv valve cause this? It seems mine might be defective. I have a new one on order. Of course it's a 65 so needs the whacky pcv valve.

If you can partially close the choke and have the engine run better, the carburetor's running lean. A faulty (stuck open) or incorrect PCV valve could cause this, though I suspect you've got problems internal to the carb.

You don't need a wacky PCV valve; a regular plastic Chrysler item will do fine. See here.

I already have the whacky pcv on order. Suppose to arrive tomorrow. I believe I got something funky going on with the pcv currently. If I remove it. Sometime idle will drop sometimes it stays the same. You can watch the ball vibrate inside then drop. And then get sucked back in. It's very erratic. And I belive it to be the cause of my idle issues as well. We will see.

So the pcv seemed to help. Idles smoother, using a vacuum gauge I can tell needle is steadier (still has the slightest jiggle) and used it to play with mixture screw, which I was able to close by about a full turn in.

Idle is at 825ish in park, didn't check in gear but I'll assume close to 750rpm. Idling in gear it runs a little shakey.

Timing is 6 degrees. I need to hit a hill and see if I get any ping. If not I'll turn it up a couple degrees and try again and reset idle and mixture.

With valve lash I have them set fairly loose. The cam card called for .012 and .014 lash (Oregon cams 125) but when set that tight I vacuum was lower and more erratic. Also I had problems dieseling. I believe they are set around .020 .022. I have not played with valve lash since new carb and pcv valve yet though.

This is a daily driver for work and school so I have to pick and choose when to work in depth wisely.

So it still pings at 6 degrees which is odd since I remember I did the advance chart and think I remember I should have been safe around 10 degrees.

Maybe I just need to limit the total advance
