| Post subject: | Fuel pickup and inside gas tank is rusting |
After sitting for 6 years, half full of fuel, I took the gas tank out of my great grandfathers old truck. I emptied the fuel from tank and then rinsed the fuel tank out 10-15 times with water. The tank had been cleaned and "resealed" prior to sitting and the sealant that they put in was pealing off in large and small pieces. Also the pickup tube had varnished shut. I pulled the pickup/ fuel sender out and cleaned the rust off of it with a wire wheel. Not thinking about it, I reinstalled the shinny pickup and tank. Fast-forward a month, I pulled the fuel sender out and it was rusted very badly. If I clean it up again, is there anything that I can seal it with to keep it from rusting? What about the inside of the tank? How can I clean rust out of the inside of the tank if it has some? Lastly, if the pickup cant be sealed, does anyone know of an affordable replacement for the pickup and/or the tank. The part number on the fuel sender is 2913936. And I can't find a number or replacement for the behind the seat tank. Thanks in advanced for input. Scott |

you could evaporust the tank, but that wouldnt fix the sealant issue, there is also electrolysis |
