Post subject:  Quarter glass removal on 63 Valiant hardtop

If anyone has a 63 manual, page 23-33, Figure 58 is Quarter Glass Installation.
It shows a "Spring nut" attaching the regulator arm to the metal track on the bottom of the window.

I cannot tell from the picture or on my car what kind of a thing a spring nut it and how to remove it.

It seems there was a different definition for "spring nut" in the 50s and 60s than the one in use today.

Anyone know? Does it pry off ?

OK, I slipped a camera behind and took some pictures.

What I am doing it removing the regulator and glass to get to the curved track and remove it to do some rust repair.
You can see the bracket that mounts the lower end of the track in the bottom picture.
That bracket and the curved track is what I need to get out of the way.

First I need to separate the regulator from the window.

Thanks.
Do you know how to remove the curved window track? I cannot find how the top end is attached.

It appears to be attached somehow to the back of this piece.
How do you remove this piece with the blue tape?

EDIT: I found three screws in the top of the window channel and removed them. It feels like there is a fourth screw and it must be under the half-century old rubber.
The piece overlaps and clings tightly to a stainless steel trim piece right about 4 or 5 inches after it turns the corner and goes horizontal, so I think the fourth screw is in that neighborhood.
I am trying to coax the rubber seal without damaging it too much...

You are on the right track.

Got fourth screw out - shorter than the others.
About 1/8" past the overlap.
But there is either a fifth screw between 3 and 4, right in the middle of the curve-

or it and the rubber and the internal red trim piece that frames the headliner are glued together.

Feeling a little sick about messing up the rubber.

If I can find the remaining screw(s) and the curved track is removed, I hope to map out the other side and cut directly to the screw heads and minimize the rubber damage.

The points marked by blue tape are where the first four screws were.
The black tape marks about where the last screw should be.
So far, I haven't been able to get to it...

I have cut rubber and probed and cannot find it.
The other four were pan head and I cannot feel another pan head. Maybe they ran out and used a flat head ?

I might have to go to plan B and cut some sheet metal so that I can swing up the track enough to get it out of the way.
