Rebuilding a SL6 that overheated on me. Pulled the crank out and one piston wouldn't let go. This is what it looked like when I took it out. http://i280.photobucket.com/albums/kk19 ... rd3tkd.jpg http://i280.photobucket.com/albums/kk19 ... ec8yyq.jpg http://i280.photobucket.com/albums/kk19 ... zjhwhz.jpg |

Can I reuse this or replace the head of this piston somehow |

I see the bottom of the skirt is broken. That could be an indication that the cylinder is very worn. You need to get someone with a bore gauge to measure all the cylinders to determine if it has to be bored to fit over sized pistons. |

If known, how many miles on that engine? Go with what Procycle told you to do, that way you'll know how much wear there is in that bore, (and probably the rest of them), and how much taper or out of round it has. Vocabulary lesson; What you have in your picture is not a "piston". What's there is a connecting rod and piston assembly. The piston is the round "slug" to the left, and the con rod extends toward the right of the screen. If it were me, I'd be trying to scare up a new, or good used piston. That broken skirt only suggests more internal problems than the obvious. Roger |

What do the cylinder walls look like? I would guess the hole that broken piston came out of is scuffed pretty badly. |

About134,xxx miles. I brought it from a junkyard with a 30 day warranty but installed after the 30 day mark. And only ran for 4 days! The walls don't seem bad aside from the light water damage. will upload pictures |

I would not call that 'light water damage'. It's definitely going to need bored. Probably at least 0.040", maybe more. The problem with rusted cylinders is you can't measure how deep the rust goes so you have to to some 'exploratory' boring to figure out how much it will take to clean up properly. I'm not sure I'd bother with it as it should not be too hard to come up with a better block than that. Better to start with a worn (but not rusty) block that can be directly measured. ![]()

They are scarce in sc. At least in good condition. The engine was exposed for two months tops. I cleaned one and there is no visible rust in it anymore. |

http://charlotte.craigslist.org/pts/5102393459.htmlhttp://onslow.craigslist.org/pts/5111155985.html We're all just trying to help. From the photos and from 30+ years experience I would hesitate to pursue rebuilding that motor. At least not without getting a professional to evaluate the real condition of the block. Based on your original question about re-using the broken piston in the first photo I'm guessing you don't have much experience. Let the folks on this forum help keep you pointed in the right direction. |

I think it's all surface rust if that and here's a link to the crank. It's a total of 6 pictures. http://s280.photobucket.com/user/Camiki ... sort=1&o=3 |
