Post subject:  Motor Mounts 68 Dart 4 Dr

Hey Guys,

Over the weekend I took the Dart camping. The last half mile of the drive is a fairly steep rocky hill that's a fairly rough drive if you aren't careful. About halfway up I was bogging down a bit so I gave it a little more gas and it kept going but something felt... off. When I reached the top it was vibrating much more than usual. I opened the hood and realized that my slant decided it wanted to slant some more.

Long story short the passenger side mount collapsed. I made it home but obviously need to replace all of the mounts.

My question is which mounts should I get? I've looked for polyurethane mounts but have only found one side. Any one know of a place that supplies them? If not polyurethane which rubber mounts are best?

Jacob

I had that happen in my 68 4 door not long ago. Same mount. Basically the distributor vacuum pod was touching the mount it was pretty far down. I got some $7.00 replacment mount thay was made in india. Not sure of brand. Youll be happy to know that mount is easily replaced. You put a jack and some foam under the oil pan, then you can unbolt the rubber part through the wheel well opening. I did not have to remove or loosen the alternator or remove anything. I did it all from underneath.

Yes, only one side is available in poly -- and it's worth supporting this guy and buying his excellent version of it (page lists price per pair because some non-slant-six applications take two of them -- he will sell individually). For the other side I'd recommend staying away from the garbage made in India (of compressed cow dung) or China (of compressed girl-children and political dissidents) which is just about all you can buy on the regular parts market these days. Old Car Parts Northwest has a lot of NOS American-made ones.

He's not the only one who can sell you one, but the point is the ones you can buy as current-production items are poor quality.

Thanks for the info Dan.

Unfortunately they don't have any of the polyurethane mounts in stock right now and they don't have an estimate on when they will make more.

Looks like I'll have to get both sides from Old Car Parts Northwest

Isn't 40+ year old rubber susceptible to drying, cracking, etc?
