Post subject: | Multimeter Recommendation Needed |
I am looking for a multimeter to use for testing various electrical circuits found in my '63 Valiant. I remain a newbie here and don't want to buy a product that I will want to upgrade or toss later. Thank you. |

Whatever you buy make sure it is CAT III 600V safety rated! My reading on arc-flash deaths and a coworker's first-hand experience of holding only the test probes when the wires vaporized have convinced me that I won't buy a cheap meter. You can get away with a cheapie on a car, but you put yourself at risk if you ever measure house current. I own 2 meters, a relatively ancient Simpson 270 analog meter and a Fluke 26. Anything Fluke should do for troubleshooting the electrical system of your Valiant. The Fluke 114 looks to be the least expensive DVOM in their line, but doesn't measure current while the 115 is <$20 more and does measure current. It's almost $155 on Amazon, but Fluke meters are rugged, safe and dependable. |

For the car you can get away with the free (with any purchase) Harbor Freight meter.............. |
