I'm learning the in's and out's of my car, and I have the service manuals from eBay ($18 dollars! woohoo!) But a lot of the things in the book assume you already know the parts. I took some pictures while I was getting the car to crank earlier today (other thread about the battery), and I'm hoping you can all help me by identifying what these parts in the photo are:

This part is just dangling in the engine bay. The positive cable of the battery has a blue wire running around to this thing on the other side of the engine. The mystery part, here, is also connected to the ignition coil.

What are these? The far, far right, the far right, and the bottom left:

And this one:

1st picture is a relay that is probably the power supply to your HEI ignition system in the last photo.

The far right item is the Starter relay and the far far right item looks like an old ballast resistor. But that should not be needed with the HEI ignition.

Those are my guesses! Someone will correct me if I am incorrect.

Rick

I'll second Rick's "guesses", looks like you've got an HEI setup. You can read more about it here.

When you say "bottom left" (referring to the 2nd photo) do you mean all the wires? That's the bulkhead it connects the engine bay wiring to the passenger compartment wiring. You'll need a wiring diagram if you want to determine what each wire does.

Mr. Covalt gets a second on what he identified. It appears that someone has done an HEI ignition conversion to your car.
If done correctly it'll eliminate the ballast resistor and original Chrysler ignition box from the circuit, and give you a better, hotter spark for more reliable drivability.

Not sure what you're referring to as "bottom left, in pic two.

Whoops! Josh was a bit faster than I.

Roger

starter relay, see page section 14-15 electrical wiring diagrams B5 also 14-17 B-15 starter interlock switch. This is from book - 81-070-5104, replaces 81-270-5113. So may be differnt diagram, page numbers etc.

Thank you guys!

I really appreciate all the replies. It'll help troubleshoot in the future with my manuals. Glad to see someone did an HEI conversion like I had briefly read over on the common things done page (forgot the name, but I'm sure you know what I'm talking about).

The HEI setup is a great upgrade, you'll be real happy with it!

Louise, thanks did it myself just before my wedding 3 years ago. Used it as our get-away car. That photo is really old, I have put the trim on since then :P

...it's a good thing to find that in your engine bay, definite upgrade item.
