Ok, so here's my situation. I have a 75' Plymouth Scamp. I was trying to put rear shocks on, and the lower mount stud on the leaf spring, snapped when I tried to remove the nut. This car is my daily driver, and I do not make a lot of money, I am not really sure what to do. I am 22, and this kinda sucks. Anybody got an idea?????

You are going to need access to a welder. You need to repair that stud on the lower shock mount plate. Is there an independent machine shop, metal fabrication shop, trailer welding shop, or some other sort of shop in your area?

You could try and find another shock plate, but installing it would involve removing the two u bolts (which will need to be replaced) and also sourcing the shock plate to begin with. Faster, cheaper, and easier to repair the one you have by welding the stud back on with the original plate left in place.

Dorman makes a replacement stock stud. No welding required. Check with a local auto parts store that handles there replacement parts.

I didn't know that. I looked it up on Dorman's website and didn't find anything that sounded like a shock absorber stud. I suggest you take your broken off shock mount into a parts store and try and match it up to a new stud.

Thank you guys. That gives me a start. If I got the stud off, and used a grade 8 bolt, washer combo(worst comes to worst), would that work also?

Hey Reed,
Just got upgraded to Windows 10, and am having to log in to all the websites as apparently all the cookies got deep sixed. Don't have anything to report or question, and hope I will be forgiven for posting off topic in this thread, but just wanted to say HI!

What rear axle does the car have? I ask because if it's got a 7.25", and you do need a replacement shock plate, I've got a pair of used ones I pulled off the race car when I switched to an 8.25". Make me an offer if you're interested.
