With a Super Six manifold, of course the Carter BBD is the direct bolt on. Even the one from a 318 will work with a little fiddling. I am running a Holley 350 cfm 2 bbl on a modified manifold that's drilled out for a Motorcraft 2100 carb. Personally, I like the Motorcraft over the Holley because it's just an easy carb to work on, but you'll have to modify the manifold, make a kickdown, and do some tweaks inside with jetting and float levels. I've also played with a Weber 32/36 and it will work with a 1 bbl manifold, but again it's got a lot of adjusting before it "feels" right. Great fuel economy though. If you want bolt-on-and-go, the BBD is hard to beat. If you want some oomph, add headers or Dutra duals (I suggest the latter) and then a Motorcraft 2100 with "1.08" stamped in the side. Really wakes things up, and the gas mileage isn't too bad but definitely not as good as the BBD. |

Post subject: | One Approach For Your Case----Get One With A Dash Pot |
Suggest you look at each BBD carb available to you and look for the optional Dash Pot that is recommended for a manual transmission to reduce the tendency for stalls and improves shifts. I think that you will find that quickly narrows down the number of carbs available to you. My bet is your 79 truck likely has a canister? That means that you probably want a BBD with the canister purge line hookup at the carb? You might get the idea by now....instead of going by numbers (which could be wrong on the carb)....look for the connections and features that work best with your truck. My bet is that a BBD found on a car or truck similar in year to yours, definitely having a dash pot for your manual application, might hookup easiest. It's likely that a 73 or later could work for those needs. ps: I managed to fit a Dash Pot purchased from QuadraJet onto a BBD for my manual application using homemade brackets and throttle extensions but you may want to avoid that pain. |

Those are good suggestions. If you want to avoid headaches, try not to reinvent the wheel. Stay closer to what you had and you'll be in the ballpark. For my application, there was no ballpark. I had no wiring harness, no dash, and a lean burn system that was half disconnected so I had a clean slate. I turned back the emissions control clock to 1970 (meaning I only have a PCV to deal with). Do you have emissions testing in your area? That's something else to consider. |
