hi sages - need some advice on a friend to all wrenchers here. bought a sears 2 ton hydraulic floor jack back in 73. have heavily used it with no failure all these years. last week jacked up a LR wheel to do a brake repair and noticed the jack kept creeping down- wouldnt stay up. no leaks or wetness anywhere on the jack. checked oil fill hole and it is full. figure leak is internal, probably worn seals or o rings on the pump plunger or the gear release valve next to the plunger pump. found no repair shops for this left in america. one said he could fix it for 250. seems all of them are now made in china. hf has one for 89 but it is chinese and no parts are available anywhere for the actuator repairs. these used to be commonly available. even napa had a chinese 3 ton for only 200. really want to save my old sears. sears no longer has my model number in its records. would hate to have to toss it and buy a new one which will crap out soon thereafter. sears to my great surprise told me the power unit with the ram in it is no longer available and they have no o ring kits available . seems wasteful and ecologically unsound to heave this heavy unit. many of you have 1 or 2 of these jacks rolling around in your garage and sooner or later all face this issue. bet my uncle d, the DI and dougmo have 3 or 4 of them rusting right now. kindly give me your best advice or sources . thanks tons bob f |

Bob, You might just take it apart, and see what seals or o -rings might be bad. Then take the parts to a hydraulic shop. They might be able to match something up. I just rebuilt a Vickers power steering pump for a 1956 Desoto. Couldn't find any parts by application. Matched a front seal and bearing at "Miller Bearing Supply" and the O-rings from Central Florida Hydraulics. Total cost was about $25.00 |

Ask at your local tractor shop - if they don't do it, they should know who does. There are two shops here that do that stuff all the time. Just keep looking - they are still out there. |

Before you tear into it too far, pull the release valve assembly. Most of the jacks I've seen have a simple ball and seat arrangement to keep the pressure where you need it. I've found the "check" ball with dings and/or wear, and single bearing balls can be had from a local bearing supplier. Roger |

hi charlie , six head, gt- appreciate your advice. did try one tractor supply and they didnt know jack.. release valve may be the problem . will take it apart. surprised at the sheer dearth of suppliers of this repair. looks like the throw away and replace culture has taken over. thanks tons bob f |
