I recently swapped in a Super Six setup that has been treating me very well, but it's time to put in the last piece, the exhaust setup. When I first bought the car, the muffler was blown, so one of the first things that was done was to get just a quick fix; the cheapest muffler setup welded in. Don't know the size, brand, of any of it. Was sure a lot quieter than an "open" exhaust, but it quickly became overbearing. Drones very loud, and I think they installed a glasspack which I'm not a fan of. So, I wanna get this time around done right.

But I really don't know what anything sounds like! I've been looking on here and on FABO and lots of people have dual exhausts. I've seen Walker mufflers recommended and people either like or don't like turbo mufflers. Hoping a couple people with single exhausts have sound bytes with their setup. Being a little louder than quiet doesn't bother me (I have the windows rolled down and no carpet with my current setup and I'm fine when it's not on the highway). Going with just one 2 1/4" pipe off a stock Super Six. If anyone has additional recommendations or especially videos or sound bytes, that would be very helpful. Thank you!

Sound bytes, no I don't have, but your going in the right direction with 2 1/4" all the way thru. I'm using a Maramount turbo on mime, it sounds stock but flows well. Just a FYI, just that 1/4 in pipe size will naturally make it slightly louder regardless of muffler.

Thanks for the reply, I'll take a look at the Maramount muffler. I've been looking around and heard a Thrush turbo muffler on a stock slant six; sounded pretty good. Anyone running the Thrush muffler? And anything regarding flow, sound quality, and/or drone?

Been also talking to a local muffler shop about doing my exhaust....and got quoted $400. :? Saying he had to make an entirely custom setup for my car. This includes muffler, piping, and labor. Is this reasonable? I wasn't expecting it to be around that much.

Here is my take on this:

One resonator in between and side exit pipe:

Resonator + dynomax super turbo muffler RIGHT AFTER INSTALLATION:

Resonator + dynomax super turbo after few months of driving:

Sounds different because the carbon build up has "break in" in the muffler and mushing out the metallic sound and giving it a lower tone rumble.

As a daily driver, it's dead silent when idling so when you drive into an intersection, you'd think it's stalling but it's very quiet. But when you floor it, boy does it roar..

Thanks a bunch Jsp, I like the Dynomax sound on your Aspen, especially after it "breaks in" so to speak. Have any drone or loud cabin noise when cruising down the highway? And about the resonator, how long was the resonator? And what diameter of pipe did you use?

I'm running a Smithy's glasspack with a side exit. I don't have a sound file, but it's not obnoxiously loud. Just a mild burble at idle, a deep growl during acceleration, and a "bloom bloom bloom" sound decelerating. I like it.
