Post subject:  3-speed manuals?
Hey ok so I'm working on getting an FSM for my '67 (they've gone up a bit in price since I had my '65... :/ ) but in the meantime, could anybody point me in the direction of general info on the 3-speed standards? There's a couple grinding issues in 1st and 2nd (3rd is still fine) that I think is just bushings needing to be replaced (clutch is still pretty new, replaced within the last year) but I want to get familiar with the standards anyway since all I ever owned before were automatics.

Glad to see you are still alive and kicking and back to the slant game.

Is your car a 3 on the column or 3 on the floor? (Just want to check, but mostly the 60's cars were 3 on the "tree")

If a column shift typically the bushings for the column linkage need replacing, you will have to do some searching on the board, someone had this problem before and the bushings aren't readily available (unlike floor shift parts)...

Sometimes the grinding can be misadjusted clutch linkage (releases at the wrong time/not enough pressure to release it correctly), and hopefully it's not something worn out in the gear box, the 60's 3 speeds did not have a synchronized first gear, so there is no shifting back from 2 to 1 while rolling down the highway if needing to down shift. That being said, you can keep an eye out at swap meets for a 1970's A-230 3speed and bellhousing and it will have the synchro first in it as a bolt in "upgrade".

'67 is kind of an odd "year" being the first wide "A" body...so unlike the later versions, you have some one year only trim parts, the first year for the dual master cylinder, parking brake cables are different from the late A-bodies, one year only idler arm, etc....but being a wide body, you can readily available bolt on any of the late parts (1973+ K member, late disc brakes, suspension upgrtades, etc...)

I have a few good used Dart 3-speeds so that's another option.
Good news, these are pretty light weight transmissions so they can be shipped FedEx Ground.
The bad news, these are pretty light weight gearboxes so they are easily broken / worn-out.

It is in fact a 3 on the tree. Thanks for the ideas. I know the clutch was replaced within the last year but it was by someone whom I'm not completely sure knew exactly what they were doing - I still have to talk to the current owner more, but we're gonna meet up today so I can figure out if the grinding was happening before the clutch replacement or only started after.

'67s are definitely an odd year, but it's a nice change from my '65 to be able to just bolt on a lot of the later year parts. And happily having a full-time position at a theatre means I have access to tools and skillsets from my coworkers that will be really useful. :)

And Doug, I may well take you up on that to at least hold me over til I figure out where to go next (A-230 like DI mentioned? Cut the column altogether and go to an A-833OD or anther on the floor swap?). Would you mind messaging me and letting me know what prices would look like? Happily, I can receive FedEx shipments at work which would make getting something like that much easier.

Or if you want a hard copy, I bought one for a 67 Charger I bought (and no longer have). Covers the Dart, Charger and Coronet

Ahhhh thank you! I only had a digital file for my '65, so I'm used to working with them. Thank you so much - I did some googling but this didn't come up, and I really appreciate it.
