Occasionally, my dart won't start, just cranks. Just started recently, perhaps a couple weeks ago. It has happened 3 times over that period; otherwise it fires up every time, easily. When it does happen, right when I let off the key it'll fire a little bit. I reached under the dash and jiggled the wires on the ignition switch and she fires right up. So, it appears to be the switch or one of the wires. I had redone the wires maybe 3 years ago, the original pigtail was melted, so I replaced the wires and used good connectors, tinned the wires, pretty sure they are good, not broken or anything. (BTW, do they still sell that pigtail?).

I had this same exact issue a year or so ago, when I was working with some metal under the dash. Unbeknownst to me at the time, a metal shaving got onto the ignition switch and was grounding a wire or crossing two wires or something. When I removed it, she fired right up. I don't see anything on the switch this time, but the symptoms are the same.

What wires or parts of the switches can short or go bad and cause this problem? I will trouble shoot all the wires, but I'm just asking if anyone has experienced this and has a head start tip(s) for me.

Thanks,

Brian

For this reason I wired in my own ignition switch on the dash. I also got a starter button from a truck supply to engage the starter relay. My original ignition switched had momentary lapses on both contacts. Since I have installed the starter switch, the stock ignition switch has never failed :?

So the contacts in the switch are the likely culprit?

Do you have pics of your setup?
