I was at the muffler shop getting the front brakes on my minivan looked at, and I asked if I could peek at some of the mufflers. I picked at random a Walker 17843, which has a 2.25" inlet and outlet. I was shocked to see when I looked down the inlet tube that it quickly constricted to about 1.5" in diameter....do stock mufflers all do this? Seems like it would choke the life out of your engine. OR am I missing something, like the perforations in the tube are sufficient area to avoid the aforementioned wheezing of your car's engine? Just curious. Brian |

I'm guessing here that the narrow internals is to keep the flow speeded up, and the baffles are sufficient to keep it from being too restrictive. It could also be that the muffler has different diameter ends on it and the internals are all the same no matter what size the outside diameter of the inlet/outlet. I read the reviews on Amazon and Summit and it seems people like this muffler. |
