I have an A-904 automatic. Just today, when I shifted into drive, the shift selector was really rough, like the internals in the steering column were scraping along. When I shift into other gears it is smooth. Do I need to take the column apart to lube this, or can I squirt some WD40 in there or something? I'm concerned because it really feels rough going into drive; I don't want it to fail before I have time to take it apart or whatever is needed to fix it. The tranny is working fine, this is in the shft mechanism in the column. thanks brian |

I shot some WD40 in there and worked it around, and now it's fine, very smooth again. Is more purposefully placed and/or heavier and/or alternative lubrication needed? Brian |

I can't say, but I am parting a 68 Dart and I have a complete (minus steering wheel) steering column for an automatic as well as the entire shift linkage from the column to the transmission. |

Sounds like lube did the trick. I would suggest getting a higher quality lubricant than WD40, such as PB Blaster spray silicone lubricant or spray white lithium grease. WD40 is not a particularly good lube. It does a few things OK, and for the short term, but is not really very good at anything. Lou |
