This happened a year ago.
The noise fixed itself after i changed the harmonic balancer and alternator + power steering belts and the charger + waterpump.

I'm still not quite sure if it was one of these parts or what.
What does slant six forum think about the noise? Can you identify the cause?
My slant six likes to burn oil at 5000-6000rpm's. No blue smoke at idle-low rpms..

Doesn't leak oil.

I just listened/watched the video and I thought it might have been flex plate bolts hitting the transmission splash.

I'd have gone straight to the water pump and alternator with an oil can, to see if that silenced it temporarily. Sounds exactly like a bushing chatter.

A hideous noise, I must say! In fact, painful. :(

So what exactly was the source of the noise? The alternator?

I would have thought the fan was hitting the fan shroud. None of those lovely sounds came from a screaming water pump bearing?

The fact is.. I don't really know.

The noise just stopped itself.. Sometimes when my engine is very very cold and i cold start it. It may produce this noise again.. Could it be belt slippage.

There is mechanically nothing wrong though.. Everything works like they should.. The noise is so random.. Btw i don't have a fan shroud.

I hate to sound picky but I think your valves could stand to be adjusted. Mine used to sound like yours (when not making the complained of racket) and after I adjusted the valves it is much quieter and has more power. I also changed to a silicone valve cover gasket. Very nice, will never go back.

I had a professional adjust my valves year ago.

OK. Coulda swore I heard valve tick, but I am not there where the car is, either. Good luck!

Oh, and I definitely agree that the original noise issue sounds like the fan blades are doing something freaky. If the belt was too tight and ran for too long, it would cause bearing wear that could result in that kind of sound.
