Post subject:  Early A Body K Members

I am working on a 1961 and 1962 Dodge Lancer. I see that the K members are different between the two year models. The '61 mounts the steering box to the frame as opposed to the '62 where the box bolts to the K member. The 1962 also has a more substantial looking engine mount support system.
Can anyone give a reason for this change between model years? Is there a preference for one K member over the other? Will they interchange?

Major suspension change in 62 that carried thru until 66. 67 and up also different. Not sure if you could put a 62 K frame in a 61 car and use the 62-66 setup. I am sure someone here has looked into that.

I am pretty sure you can swap in the 62 K-frame, which will give you much larger parts availability and a more reliable steering box mount. The LCAs were the same from 62-74, IIRC. Shocks interchange up to 76 A-bodies. 62-up steering box was used well into the 70s on A-bodies many other Mopars.
