Post subject: | Valve Angle - NOT seat angle |
Does anyone know what the valve angle (off vertical) is for the /6? For example, 340 is 18* and SBC is 23*... |

He means off the axis of the cylinder. I think I heard it is the same as LA engines (18 deg), but I don't really know. I am interested too! Lou |

I measured about 13 +/- a degree or so on the drawing in the Mopar Engines manual. |

I measured the angle on a head a while back but ended up not doing whatever it was I wanted the angle for. The number that sticks in my mind is 11 degrees. |

OK, I got curious so went out to the shop where I happen to have a bare head getting ready take to the machine shop. With an old intake valve and my 'anglelometer' I measured 11.5 degrees. ![]() |

Good to know, guys. I thought about measuring one on the bench, but y'all beat me to it. 11.5 deg might explain why you can make a good flowing head (relative to the cyl displacement), even with the 30 deg angle between the intake surface and the cyl axis. Need to think further about this... Cheers, Lou |

The factory blueprints spec the valve guide angle at 12 degrees. Early SL6 engine development engineering documents say that 14 degrees was also tried & tested but 12 degrees worked "better" for the engine's intended use. DD ![]() |

I was hoping you would chime in, Doug - thanks! 12 deg it is... Lou |
