Post subject: | Rebuilding 719 Heating System for '61 Valiant V200 |
Hello S6F, I'm wondering if someone could please help me with some general information about the operation of the original 719 Heating System. I'm very curious what workarounds people have come up with for unobtainable/insanely overpriced original parts. Can one run a later year ('63-66) heater core in the 719 fiberglass housing? Or is a re-core / rebuild of my original core recommended? One of the pipes on the core is very loose / removable. Who could rebuild one on the west coast if that's my only option? Are there ways around spending $200 on Ebay for an NOS Heater Control Valve? My car's heater control valve has been gutted and epoxied on one side. Between sculpting the (completely missing) rounded fan portion of the 719 box with fiberglass and resin, and researching the lack of parts, I'm becoming a wee bit anxious. Please help. Thanks so much. -Zach Blizzard (San Francisco, CA) |

Briefly (now; more later when I can): A '63-'66 or other-year core won't fit. There are workarounds for the heater valve issue -- how much of a slick drop-in such a workaround is vs. how much modification you have to do depends on how much time and money you have for the workaround. |

-Dan Thanks so much for the prompt reply. Money is moderate, though I can always make time when overcome by obsession. What would you suggest for the "slick drop-in"? In terms of mods, I'm reminding myself that I'm sculpting a large portion of the housing...and am not restoring a show car. How about a re-core? Should I call my radiator guy? or do you suggest someone? Thanks again. |
