Does anyone know if the sliding rear glass on an 85 pickup takes a different rubber than the standard glass. We pulled the rear glass today while getting ready to paint the truck. I have a sliding rear glass that I bought at Carlisle (no rubber) that I would like to install but it looks like the window is about a 1/2" smaller the whole way around the frame. Just wondering if the rubber may be thicker on the slider.

The other bad part is I don't know if the slider I have is a Chrysler one or an aftermarket one. Thanks for any info.

Rick

don't know if this will help,

my 83 D 150 has a rear slider, It was in the truck from day one, don't know if it was factory or a dealer installed option.
In advance of removing the seal - window I had done some internet research looking for a replacement seal for a slider window,, never found one..and these were common on the mid 80's D 150's

what I do know is that when I removed the rear slider as part of the paint - body restoration, I was surprised at how loose the fit was from the rubber to the slider window frame,,
I got in between the window frame and seal with a wide screw driver and easily worked it out,, went in the same way..
basically the seal is a tight fit from the rubber to the body and a loose fit from the rubber to the window frame..

I soaked the OE seal ( from the slider) in silicone and re used it.

clean the OE window seal in detergent and water, then soak it for a few days in silicone,, see if the slider fits,,,and stays in.

Thanks John. Any way you could shoot me a good picture of your window?

I included a close up of the window construction rivets - and seal,, to see if it looks like the slider that you have..

While the slider was out I had window tint film put on it,,
really like that,, keeps the hot summer sun out and helps with head light glare at night..

Yes, they are different. I installed a slider from a '91 into my '73, and seal was much different. I'm not sure if different year sliders had different seals, or if they can be mixed.

I first had an aftermarket slider that used the original '73 seal, but it was a generic shape and used a filler the same thickness as the glass so they could make the slider fit multiple truck manufacturers. If yours doesn't have a filler around the aluminum frame, it's probably OEM, or at least one made to fit perfectly. OEM should also have a Chrysler mark somewhere on the glass.

The one John shows is the same one that was in my '89 D100. Per the FPC, answer to your question is yes, different gasket for solid vs. sliding backglass. The part number for the gasket you need with sliding backglass is 4335 283; appears to still be available (shows up at www.chryslerpartsdirect.com ).

Thanks Dan and all! I just laid my sliding glass on top of the plain glass and it is just about 3/8" smaller the whole way around. So I will likely order the new rubber and hopefully it will fit!

PS Dan you have a PM.

I went to the Dealer Tuesday to see if they could verify which rubber I needed, and after about 15 minutes on the micro film they told me that they only listed one rear window rubber not two. So I was not sure what to do.

So today I went to the local junk yard and they had a rear sliding glass & rubber already out of the truck for $75. It looked good and with my tape it looked to be the correct width to use the stock non slider gasket.

So I brought it home and indeed the sliding window does fit the rubber I had with the solid glass.

Brand was Dee Zee.

??? I did your homework for you. I looked up the part numbers. I gave you the one you needed. All I didn't do was post the parts catalog page.

Dan, I gave him the number you gave me and he said that was the rear window rubber, but he also said that they only showed one not two different ones. And since I did not think my slider was a factory one, I hated to order a new one and have it not work.
