OK, question for all you cam experts. Why do different cams have different lash specs. Seems counterproductive to get a higher lift cam only to lose lift because the lash is set at 0.020 instead of 0.010. Just curious. -Matt |

I would guess it has to do with the acceleration rate of the lobe. You can tighten up lash to a certain extent on some cams. I know my Clifford didn't like it much though. |

I have asked Ken, with Oregon Cams, the same questions. I'll see what he has to say. I am using their cams so I guess they should have a reasonable answer. |

Yes, as slantzilla mentioned, it has to do with the individual lobe ramps of each cam. Some radical roller cams have lash as wide as .032" or more, while some roller cams have a "tight lash" grind which allows lash as tight as .012"-.015". Its not counterproductive at all, just satisfying the needs of that particular cam lobe profile. |

OK, I can understand that easy enough. I plan to go with the recommended specs. I was just curious about the differences. One cam I have is tighter than the factory cam specs and the other is looser than factory cam specs. The higher lift cam is the looser one. I have two different grinds to decide on. Oregon Cams, #1395 and #1313. I plan to start with the milder one and switch if I don't like it. |

Higher lift cams are essentially always looser on the lash, esp for Slants. I usually end up looser than the cam specs say too. I am running 0.030" on I and E on my big cammed 64 Dart motor. 6-8k miles and no problems. 50k+ and tons of racing on my last cam running that lash - no significant wear. Lou |
