I have a chrome starter I bought around 25 years ago for a 69 Dart 340 I no longer have. I used it on the 340 for about a year and swapped out for a mini starter and put the chrome one on a shelf. A few months after I bought the Duster I put on the chrome starter and have used it since early 2008. It started giving me problems about a month ago so I put the old starter back on and decided to fix it myself. The drive gear is what needs to be replaced. Well after taking it apart, cleaning it and then starting to put it back together yesterday I found that the Friction washer that goes between a gear and the housing had fallen apart. When removing the pinion shaft and gear I found what was left of this washer it looked the it was made of fibrous material. I searched around looking for this washer but could not find anyone specific for this app. Now finally to my question after all this, what is this washer and where can I get one or what can I sub for it?

Thanks for looking.

I heard ya but I will say that this starter was quality built and looked really nice in the /6 other than not being able to see it in in the V8.
