I purchased this damper kit for my truck. http://www.rockauto.com/catalog/moreinf ... cc=1084036 Being it fits many different trucks/vans the instructions are a little confusing. I know that one end of the damper mounts to the center link but I don't know where to mount the L bracket for the other side of the damper. If im reading the instructions right it says to mount it at the idler arm bolt. Is one bolt enough support for this? Should I drill another hole in the frame and use two holes in the L bracket for more support? Should I avoid using the idler arm bolt all together? None of my trucks have a factory steering damper to reference for a 2WD truck and I can not find any pics online. Any idea would help. |

You might try asking this over on www.ramchargercentral.com Lots more people with experience with steering stabilizers there. |

I would not use a steering damper unless you need one. They are normally used on 4x4 beam axles to reduce flutter and bump steer. The design of the independent fron suspension eliminates the need for them. Why do you want one? |

Why would one need stabilizer on 4x2 half ton pick up with factory wheels and ride height? The factory never used them. If truck is wandering going down the road, and or steering feels lose, sloppy, disconnected and perhaps shimmies you have a bunch of worn out parts that need to be replaced and or a way out of spec alignment. Now if the suspension is jacked up, huge tires installed, 4x4 drivetrain and a whole lot'ah four wheel'en in the willy-wacks being conducted, than some damping probably would be needed to keep all the oversized aftermarket parts from beating the crap out of the now under sized factory parts. Just my 2 cents |

The reasion I want one is because i put some wide tires on the front as well as the back. (275 50R15) I also got some Areo rims that weigh only 13Lbs a piece. I just want to take some stress off the front as the roads around here are not the best. |

I dont know that the steering dampner will reduce stress to the front - I might suggest to use Stock Type DOT Wheels in the width you want for the tires you plan to use. Those aero wheels are not DOT approved for the reason that they are light and will probably deform when hitting potholes, bridge plates and the like which are not found on a race track. That piece is really designed for a totally different front axle / suspension design. Best of luck ! Greg |

The wheels are the stock size 15X8. But the tires are not 275 50R15 compared to 235 70R15. Or 10.8 inches wide from 9.25 inches. Also the 50 Series are DOT approved. But this dosent really matter as im still wanting to install the damper. I just was wondering if anyone has installed one and if they knew where to mount it. |
