Post subject:  canister to spin on conversion

I have a 65 D100 with the old style cannister oil filter. I want to convert over to a spin on.

It looks easy, just swap out the oil pump. is that it?
Also: I noticed the new pump doesn't have a stand pipe - is anyone selling one? used is fine.

Anything else to note on the swap?
thanks

No oil pump change is required. I believe all you have to do is take the canister off and screw the nipple back in. At the most you need a nipple or nipple and stand pipe. Dan knows for sure so hopefully he chimes in.

If you have the type of canister with the domed lid held on by a central bolt, you will need an oil filter adaptor (with or without standpipe, with or without check valve -- depending on what you want and what's available).

If you have the type of canister with the flatter lid held on by its own threads onto the side of the canister, you will not need an adaptor; just remove the canister and spin on a spin-on.

I have the central bolt through the top - type.

What does the part I need look like????????? I'd like to fit the tall oil filter.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/331185472451 is the factory '73-up (short) type with standpipe and check valve.

Or if you're not in a super big hurry, I have a small stash of various '72-down (long) types, some with and some without check valves, that I will be selling off in January.

You can use the tall filter with the short or long standpipe (or with the stubby adaptor that has no standpipe at all, which looks like this)

Hi Dan,
I have one of the stubby adapters kicking around IF its the same one that screws into the side of all the mopar v8s.

I don't have a standpipe with or without a checkvalve. I probably could braze a standpipe onto the stub, yes?

Either way, I'm in no rush.....
