Post subject: | Carter BBS stalls barely into throttle. Accelerator pump? |
Hello. I have a 64 Dart. Previous owner says he rebuilt it twice and same problem exists. Besides being difficult to start, the following problem is present. May I have some guidance please? When I just get on the throttle, it bogs and in most cases, dies. If I can feather the accelerator through it, the car runs beautifully. Primarily noticed from a stop or slow speed to accelerate. To some degree, as the engine warms up, I'm able to manipulate the throttle somewhat easier to minimize bog or stalling out. Where do I start? I have purchased another BBS, electric choke kit and carb rebuild kit with new float also. They are still in the box. Where should I start with the existing /mounted carb? Is this an accelerator pump adjustment issue or something else. Thanks in advance for any insight you are willing to share. |

Acc pump circuit.... If somebody can find a diagram of a BBS, I can tell you where to exactly look......... If not, there's a jet behind a welsh plug (where you drop in the 2nd check ball) that clogged up on mine. |

Check the distributor's vacuum advance & mechanical advance systems to make sure they are working correctly. A bad vacuum advance 'pod' will cause a big transition bog... DD |

29 is the 2nd check ball. The welsh plug is directly below 29 and 10 o'clock from the number 41 The jet is between the round hole for the 2nd check ball and the rectangular hole just to the left of the check ball hole. Remove welsh plug with vise grips. Apply Loctite and tap in to seal it when you're done. You need flat screwdriver to remove jet that's same diameter as hole. Blast out acc circuit from ball 29 to ball 28. When clean, fuel squirts out into carb bore just left of the rectangular hole. You only have to remove top of carb and should be able to leave base on manifold. (use the 2 short top screws to hold middle part of carb to bottom before fitzing around) |
