Race car, daily driver or a little of both?

Weekend driver for the most part, there is a track less than ten miles from me, but more than anything just want to drive it to work some, and a trip around the area on the weekend, while trying to harass the occasional import.

I would use at least a 3000 stall 10" converter and a 3.91 gear.

I would run duals back to the transmission cross-member area and then Y them together into a single pipe.

I would also use a larger carburetor.

...and more compression (that stick likes it up past 9.5 to 10:1 and higher on the rpm band).... and maybe index at +6.... and port the head so those valve sizes don't go to waste... duals per Josh's recommendation....

390 cfm holley or 500 cfm for daily driving.... 500- 600 cfm for racing....

3.23 daily driving would be OK.... my car really liked that setup with 3.55's even with the OD gear...

EI and recurved distributor is a must

small 4 barrel, more compression ratio, porting, large valves, per your post should ring in about 190hp at the crank...with Dennis's gearing and TC, 16's in the 1/4 for a not so sorted out car...closer to high 15's once you get everything dialed together or better....

If you did it right, the car will feel like a peppy 318....

I like your buildup specs quite a bit. Dennis has got the combo there - 3000 stall and 3.55 or 3.91 gears. The Holley 500 2bbl is a great street/track carb for your kind of combo. Some head porting, at least in the bowls, would be advised as well, as DI said.

Best,

Lou

With all due respect to those posting suggestions, you can't possibly determine a good gear ratio without knowing how large your tires are.
