Well today I picked up a complete 77 2bbl slant six out of a Dodge duelly truck for $50.. score. The guy bought a truck for body parts and he had no idea about engine condition. I only bought it for the 2bbl set up. So started to tare it apart tonight just out of curiosity. Got excited when the valve cover came off and it was spotless. Got the head off and head looked like it was just rebuilt.. score again.
Got more excited when you could clearly see 040 on the pistons. This thing was just rebuilt has almost no build up o. The pistons, and was thinking triple score. But.. always hate those, #6 got moisture in it. The air cleaner was left off. Has some rust on the one side of the cylinder wall. The piston was at the bottom of the stroke. So the rust is only at the bottom of the bore 1/2" high by 2". I my just hone it, gauge it. If the rust comes out and , I may keep it as a back up.
I still think I came out ahead for what I paid. Carb shaft feels tight also. If it wasn't for scrap being $35 a ton, he wouldn't have sold it. He said it would have been scrapped.

I hope you grabbed the kickdown linkage and transmission kickdown lever, if they were present. I say try soaking the #6 bore in some coke until the rust goes away and they try a compression check. But it does sound like a great score!

It was a 4 speed truck and my car is a 4 speed too. I did get a massive bellhousing that would make a great flower pot.

Don't pitch that bellhousing yet, or the flywheel...if they are for the NP235 and the 11" clutch, I am working on that conversion to put them in a 1967-1976 A-body since the hi-performance clutches we have been gettign for the standard flywheel and bell have not been great...
Hopefully you got the cover plates..

No, was going to keep them. I use to have a bunch of parts, then got rid of some when I moved. And of course now need some parts I got rid of. But my car is a 64, so not sure if the bellhousing will fit. Do have a turbo engine being built. A bigger/better clutch my be needed.

Not unless you do some reinnovation with a sledgehammer.... the bellhousing is similar in size to the big block version, so the big wide '67+ is no problem there...

Still a gooe score. Soak the rust for a couple days with turpentine or PB Blaster. It might clean up. If the wall is pitted you can get the cylinder sleeved.
