Stephanies 67 Dart is now up at school. We met up this morning, and in the narrow streets of S. Philly, loaded up the car. Trip home was uneventful, thank goodness. The plan? get it running, electrically sorted out. Disk brake upgrade in the front, rear swap to big bolt in the back....and some generally maint. stuff. Make is safe, make it reliable will be the goal. At that point, she has right of first refusal to buy it back. Part Search: The only thing that I'd like some help finding is an A body, large bolt rear. 7.25 open is fine. Close to central NJ. Ready to bolt in. I posted in the "wanted" section. I'll post progress reports for all. Mike |

You might consider looking for LBP axles for your existing 7.25" rear end. I know they're not easy to find, but I will look next time I do a similar project. I'll be following your progress, since I'm doing the same thing to my '74 Swinger. I found an 8.25" rear end at my local salvage yard. It turned out to be more trouble than I expected, because the pinion seal needs replacing and it came with 11" brakes, which I didn't want. On the bright side, it turned out to be a sure-grip, and I was able to get the driveshaft with it, which I think will bolt into my car without cutting. The whole package came to $350 including the shock plates and U-bolts. Then I had to spend another $40 to get the 10" backing plates and struts. I'm happy to get the 8.25" rear, especially given that it's a sure-grip, but it would be nice if you could just get LBP axles without changing the rest of it. |

rich006 You cannot just swap LPB axles into a SBP 7 1/4 housing. The ends of the housing are different. The LBP axle uses a larger bearing, and has 5 bolts holding the axle in, where the SPB axle uses 4 bolts. |
