| Post subject: | Brake vacuum booster- NOS or reman? |
What are the opinions about remanufatured power brake boosters? The booster on my truck has an internal failure where it makes a vacuum leak when I press on the brakes and the engine runs rough and also the brakes lock up almost instantly when I apply them. I am debating finding someplace to rebuild my original unit, buying a remanufactured unit, or sourcing a NOS unit. Does anyone reliable rebuild these units? Is the quality of remanufactured brake boosters as suspect as remanufactured carbs or distributors? Can someone with a parts manual tell me the part number for my booster? 1976 D100, 6100 lb gross weight capacity, power discs up front and drums on the rear, 225 engine. Four bolt master cylinder. Finally, will thebooster form a later truck interchange? I know I have to be careful about the switch to the two mounting bolt aluminium MC in the late 70s. I am just figuring out my options. Thanks! |

Junk. Go patronise a local Northwest expert who does very high-quality booster rebuilds for entirely reasonable prices.Quote: a NOS unit
…would need to be rebuilt before use. Rubber parts do not like to sit for years in one position against each other.

Thanks Dan! Those prices are actually about the same as the cost for a reman crapshoot, so I will go for rebuilding the stock one. Yet another resource that should be added to the links in the Slanted Network page. |

He's been at it forever, and was happy to give me a tour of his shop when I brought in a '73 Dart booster. Quite an impressive operation, and I have been repeatedly happy with his work. |
