just wondering how far any of you guys have gone timing wise with a stock cammed slant? i am keeping mine at what i think is pretty conservative at the moment, only winding 12deg into it with 5psi, to keep things simple, here's a screenshot of my current situation, im currently working on my VE table before i start winding any timing into it, i will also wind the boost up a bit more, ![]() annnd my current setup is MS2 6x LS2 coils 36-1 trigger wheel rx7 series 5 hitachi turbo |

My turbo slant is a race-only application with no street driving at all, ever. Because of that, I don't worry about gas mileage, engine heat or driveabiity. That allows me to run what the engine likes for power.... which seems to be 18 degrees. I have an old Lean Burn slant six distributor that came with NO centrifugal advance mechanism and no vacuum advance diaphragm; the plate is locked down, solid. So, it starts and runs all the way to its 5,500-rpm redline, with 18 degrees of advance. It seems to like that. I could not get away with that on the street. Bill |

Yep slightly different application. how much boost are you running and do you have any idea of your intake temps etc, What fuel do you run? I am up to 15 deg at around 6psi now, but I lost my fuel pump yesterday, luckily it died off throttle was 2nd hand unknown condition. I have a new one on the way now, slightly painful as it's an in tank setup |

Hey Kcuf, Do you have any detonation problems running that much advance? I'm trying to plan ahead to take the steps to prevent detonation in my build, because I don't have it assembled yet. Any tips for me? 10-12 psi Stock 225 Intercooled blow through IAT sensor installed. |

Quote: Hey Kcuf,
pre turbo i was having the odd bit of detonation at part throttle up steep hills on a hot day, but i think i'd sorted that out with the above maps, i haven't had any detonation at all since boost, which is how i am planning to keep it all things going well.Do you have any detonation problems running that much advance? Any tips for me? 10-12 psi Stock 225 Intercooled blow through IAT sensor installed. My maps have changed a bit since then also, i will grab a screenshot of the current setup and re-post where I am at now. I am still running no cooler, so timing is still pretty conservative, I do need to either shim my springs or replace them as i am pretty sure even at 5-6psi it is hurting power north of 3500 or so rpm. This is my first boosted slant so i cant say i really have any awesome advice, other than keep it conservative and work your way up, what are you going to be using for ignition control? by blow through I am guessing you are going carb? |

Yeah it's carbureted. I'm going to use HEI with a standard cap and rotor on the stock distributor. From what I understand, I have to retard thd timing to an extent in order to prevent detonation when using pump gas. I want to avoid retarding it if I can so I don't have sluggish start ups, so I was wondering how many degrees people have played with on a stock slant with an IC. We'll see though! Definitely going to start conservative and push it to a reasonable location. |

For my build I used a regular super six dizzy, I believe w the 9R slot. I then used the spring kit that is sold by one of the memebers (check in appropriate area) dont remember the colors but I did set my timing to 23*. I also run a 5 pin hei module from an 80's toronado. The small 5th pin when grounded pulls 5* timing which in turn limits me to 18* total. That 5th pin I set up on a hobbs switch to 5# of boost. So, 23* timing max, bosst builds to 5#, hobbs switch closes which grounds out the toronado hei module and pulls 5* and I end up w 18*. This is all at 10# total boost with a blow through, intercooled setup. Builds noted under turbo d150 i believe. |
