Post subject:  Interesting data on valve cover baffles

This page makes interesting reading for anyone fixing to install baffles in e.g. the Offy aluminum valve cover. The site belongs to a company selling an adjustable/tunable PCV valve for $129 (yes, you read that price right). It's an interesting idea the vast majority of us probably would not benefit from. But the baffle article is worth a read.

Nice lil article. Thats the kind of tech that really works. Oil consumption of that magnitude could cause detonation .

I like the way they scientifically checked their theory.

This brings up another question, relative to slant sixes. Does it make a difference if the PCV valve is in the front or the back of the valve cover?

Nice work. Thanks for posting. They should have also mentioned to check carefully for rocker arm or pushrod interference with the baffle. If it was mentioned, I missed it.

I would think not.

Where ever you put it put the breather on the opposite end.

No, as long as it's as widely separated as possible from the breather.

This Brings up an interesting thought for me..
Does not apply to slant s or inline engines,

Does it matter on a V-8 if the PCV is on the Right or Left Valve cover? as long as the breather is on the opposite side?

Does the Windage direction of the crank adversely affect this flow in any way?

All these questions brings two to my mind. First would a crank case evc. system be a good choice on a daily driver? What would it do? Second what about a open filter breather? I am looking at replacing my valve cover so I can hammer out the original one in shape. I may just keep the after market one on if it works better.

No. Very bad choice.

Ok. So since my orginal breather had a fitting for a hose to the air box. And I am now using an open element air filter. Should I get a breather without a fitting and call it good?

You should get an open element air cleaner base that has a nipple for the breather or add a nipple.

Ok mine had the parts for it. I just need to drill a hole.
