I've been playing with this '73 Dart for over a year...it's getting better and better...just converted it to Super-Six w/Carter BBD...having fun, not worrying abut stock... I want to get a more comfortable steering wheel...I'm not sure the one I have is stock, but it's close...what do you guys like for a replacement?   It shouldn't be a cheap Grant from Pep Boys, but I'd like to to feel a tad more modern but not out of place. Thoughts? |

That is a stock steering wheel, one of the higher end and nicer looking ones (in my opinion). Grant sells an adapter to mount pretty much any steering wheel you want on your column. I am partial to this one myself. Ten inch diameter and 5 1/2 inch dish. I have one of these I am going to use on something, someday. |

Yeah, I mis-spoke, I know it's stock dart, but I'm not sure it was stock in this car...the beige doesn't fit. How do you figure out which adapter kit? http://www.grantproducts.com/products/b ... utomotive/ |

Just me, but I would keep the stock steering wheel,, Its the 'real thing'... maybe a wrap on the OD. the wheels and tires look great what are they? |

+1 Yep. Leather wrap the stock wheel, or run the chrome three spoke wheel. My two favorite choices.

The wheels are American Racing Torq Thrust Tires are BFG 225/60/15s which are a tad too wide for the front offset on these wheels. Where would I get a really nice leather wrap? Sorry I missed the Application menu...but you gotta admit, it's not very intuitive... |

Yeah, the Grant website isn't the clearest. I used to get leather wraps at the local grocery store, auto parts store, or eBay. They seem to be getting harder to find as taste in car decoration changes. |

Reed is probably right here,,good news is as more plastics are used in mfg,, paint that adheres to plastic has gotten better,, so if you want to make your OE steering wheel more contempoary,, for color there is a way,, typically the process is a cake mix, so follow directions to the letter... a quick google search found this: http://www.amazon.com/Superior-58-0600B ... Ed, didn't your mother tell you to keep your fingers out of the spokes when a wee lad?imanexcellentdriver, In this day and age of all things digital, your OEM steering wheel solves hand placement dilemma for those not brought up with analog time pieces and air bags; ten and two. I would be more concerned with this vintage conveyance's lack of cup holders. |

I have a Tuff Wheel on my truck and an original wheel like yours on my Duster (different spokes, same wheel) and I prefer the Duster's wheel by far. The larger diameter is just more comfortable to me. On long cruises I'll just put one hand on the bottom of it and rest it there. Can't do that on the truck since the wheel is smaller and it's not as comfortable.I want to get a more comfortable steering wheel...I'm not sure the one I have is stock, but it's close...what do you guys like for a replacement? It shouldn't be a cheap Grant from Pep Boys, but I'd like to to feel a tad more modern but not out of place. Thoughts? Just paint the spokes of your wheel and be done with it. Get yourself a can of SEM plastic adhesion promoter and get a can of SEM color coat Landau Black. Clean the wheel up real good and then spray the adhesion promoter on via the directions on the can. After letting it dry for whatever the recommended time is, start with very light coats of Landau Black. When I say light, I mean light. End up doing 10-15 extremely light coats to keep the paint from looking glossier in certain parts. When you're done, the wheel will look like it came dyed that way from the factory. I did that on all the black plastic on my Barracuda and they look perfect. |
