Ok, just curious and I have too much time on my hands. What is the biggest slant six anyone can recall? I am talking stroked and bored engines. I had heard 260 cuin has been achieved with stroking. |

Yes. I think Rick Covalt has that engine now. |

Ryan still has it. It is not running now. The Slantkota was wrecked, and he pulled the motor. Yes it did still smoke. Rick |

I think we'd have to hold that "biggest?" question in abeyance until we figure out who's done what with the big Argentinian 906 block discussed here and here, for example. |

Yes, the 258" is the engine from Bren in FL. 4.25" stroke and 3.592" bore. I ran it for a few years in the 1990 "Slantkota." Doctor Dodge has built at least one 260" motor with 4.5" stroke and 3.5" bore. That is in his '66 Dart wagon, IIRC. Both of the above use standard 225 blocks from the US. Sonic checked and partially block filled in the 258" case. I saw no problems on the street, except for the oil burning due to re-used gapless rings w/o honing. I am dreaming about a 4.5" X 3.504" shortblock for my turbo car now. I have the crank and rods and just need custom pistons (and time to do it). I don't want to go above 0.104" over due to wall stiffness concerns. If you combined the 4.5" stroke and 3.592" bore you would have 274". I doubt you could go much above that in the stock block confines. Best, Lou |

To date, 260 is the biggest one I have assembled & run. I did sleeve a SL6 block in a way that will allow up to a 3.75 bore... So "on paper" I can get 298 CDI out of that block. ( 3.75 bore & a 4.5 stroke) But it is more likely that I will use a smaller bore, with the first build on this engine block... so I can leave myself some "insurance" bore material, in case I need to do later rebuild(s) DD |

Was this difficult to do? I know nothing about sleeving a block.... I did sleeve a SL6 block in a way that will allow up to a 3.75 bore... So "on paper" I can get 298 CDI out of that block. ( 3.75 bore & a 4.5 stroke) But it is more likely that I will use a smaller bore, with the first build on this engine block... so I can leave myself some "insurance" bore material, in case I need to do later rebuild(s) DD What would be reasonable to expect a local machine shop would be able to accomplish while sleeving a block. |
