'SI Valves' carries 1.70 and 1.44 valves for the slant.

Post subject:  Yep...

I have a set of SI valves that have over 75,000 miles of road use on them, Holley super tuning, and lots of high rpm drag runs on them... and they are still going...since 2001...and still look new.... I also appreciate the fact that they also have the stem turned down a bit near the head to hopefully allow for better flow than a straight 3/8" stem.

FYI.

Okay so i called a local machine shop and they quoted me $325 to have them installed in my head. That sounds a bit much. Is that reasonable?
Thanks matt :)

Are they replacing the guides, opening up the bowls, and doing a good valve job?

I spent $500 last time I had oversized valves installed and the head milled .080". I did the blending and porting myself.

That sounds like a good deal to me also. I get spoiled around here though. I took a set of engine builder valves and a head that was already pocket ported to a local engine builder. I asked how much to install the new valves, check the guides, valve job and plane the head. He said $200. I thought that was a steal and he charged me exactly $200.

PS And that was just a year ago, not 35!

Alright so my dad seems to think that its cost effective to spend the money and have it done. It totals up to $441. What kind of power gains would i expect?

Depends. If you still have a crummy muffler or clogged catalytic converter probably nothing. If you have a free breathing intake and exhaust, the valve job is done well and the compression ratio is increased you could see a 20% power increase. Maybe more if you correct other problems that kept the old configuration from performing well. Most of us don't have the time and money to start with a good stock engine, perform modifications one by one and test after each change. Claims like "that got me 5hp" or "5-7% power increase" are pure marketing.

Rick, would you be able to supply me with contact info for your shop. At that pricing it would be worth my time driving there.
