Post subject:  Injector bungs in head

Hello, I am getting ready to drill my head to accept Bosch style injector bungs. My plan is to install the bungs with JB Weld as recommended by Holly. Any advice??? I really don't want to destroy the head but luckily I farm and have access to about 20 slant 6's in old combines in the local ag bone yard. My two questions are, has anyone successfully done this with JB Weld and will my injectors spray on the walls of the 1.5" deep bung and cause the very pooling issue I am trying to avoid?

Angle them at 30 degrees so they spray into the intake ports. Otherwise yes, the fuel will spray against the floor of the intake runner and pool there.

Most modern FI motors aim the fuel at the backs of the intake valves. The long curve of the slant 6 ports won't quite allow that but the closer you can get to hitting the valves the better.

Whether your spray hits the sidewalls of your injector bung "tunnel" depends on the width of your injectors's spray cone. There are injector build/rebuild specialists who can customise this to your specs (within reason); I just went through this process ordering a set of Bosch Gen 3 (EV6) injectors.

Are you drilling into the head or intake? On John's intake the holes went in at roughly 50°.

I've spoken with the makers of JB Weld concerning the usability of their product.
I was questioning them concerning thinning it in order to cast something, but the subject also covered heat. I was informed that JB does not recommend it for high temp applications, and can make no guarantees if used in such a manner.
That being said, the engineer also told me that they have had folks use it to "repair" exhaust manifolds, and it held up well. The area that you're drilling for the bungs would also see exhaust gas temps, so you might want to reconsider your materials before you get too far into this.

My plan is to drill directly into the head and through the water jacket. I think the coolant will keep the heat well below exhaust gas temps???

Here is mine. 3/4 OD AL tubing step drilled for injector. For some reason I used a hole saw, and it worked better than a 3/4 drill. Maybe it was the angle or how I was trying to drill them on my press.
