I was recently over at a fellow forum member's house. I'll protect his name here, but let's just say he's got a slant six or two, and some early a body cars.. Medium height and build, brownish blondish grayish hair. He has a number of headers that might be for sale, and I was wondering if any of you fine folks knew if they would fit in a '63 Valiant with power steering..

Any help would be most.. Helpful

The top one (Clifford Shorty) should be the closest to fitting your car. You might have to raise the engine slightly by shimming the motor mount for the tubes to clear the top of the box. Or, I seem to recall you might have to bend or cut/weld the front 3 header tubes to raise the front bank by 1-2" to clear a PS box? Charrlie_S might be able to help here, as he would have the most experience.

I am not sure about any of the others, except the other "shorty" type with the two hands holding them. Only certain way is to try them and see.

BTW, if the headers with the two hands holding them are for a 170, I might be interested to buy them...

Hope this is helpful,

Lou

With a 225 engine, the front three tubes need to be cut ("V" notch), and bent, to raise the collector higher, to clear the power steering box. With a 170 engine, the front three tubes would require a major rework to clear the power steering steering box.
PS: The Clifford shorties, will not fit any 170 engine/ A body application, without modification.

How much do you think they would they have to move? Inch or two? Or six? Probably just easier to get a manual steering box? With all the suspension and bushings I've got in that front end, the factory PS unit is an abysmal POS..

225 with power steering, need to raise the front collector about 2 inches, or so. Without PS, no mods.

Man steering is SO much better feel than factory PS anyway, if you can handle the arm freight.
