I'm looking at milling the cylinder head .1 and was wondering if I will have any problems with a .440 lift cam. Have been reading that these heads can be milled quite a bit but never see what other components are being used with each mill. .2 something is the highest I've read which to me (newbie mopar) seems crazy. Going off of my experience with my 302, milling heads farther than .0020 (20 thousandths) and clearance issues arise...

0.100" will not hurt anything. You might have to get shorter pushrods as your rocker adjusters will be at the limit. I have done a few heads with more than that and never had a problem.

The head on my truck right now is milled .110 and I have a .440 lift, 220@.050 cam and no issues. The pistons are generally way down the bore. Mine were .165 if I remember.
I am running high test gas, however I could get by on mid grade

Rick

I used a reground cam on my engine, and I used stock length push rods.

Make sure toi take into account that Comp's cams have had issues regarding the oil pump gear... The Comp 252 is a reasonably good cam if going better than stock with 9:1 SCR...the 264 isn't as torquey through the lower part of the bands...

Regrinding a cam lowers the base circle so you get some pushrod length back compared to a new cam on a new blank...if you regrind your old cam, you can use your original oil pump if in good condition and not have to worry about the gear getting chewed up.

I have a stock, uncut '64 block and a '64 head that has been milled around 0.085". My pushrods aren't original, but I do recall buying them as stock replacements from NAPA several years ago. Looks like I could shave a little bit more before running out of room on the adjusters.

I'm also running a cam with .448 lift and have no clearance issues. Stock flat-top pistons are down in the hole 0.185" and valves are slightly oversized 1.70/1.44 from engnbldr.
