So, the original engine is starting to smoke, as well as use copious amounts of oil. An engine swap is in my future, hopefully after the school year is over. My other job is close enough that I can walk there. So, early style head with removable spark plug tubes, or later model head? I have both types in my garage. |

Early head with tubes is lighter and has more spark plug choices, later style head is heavier and won't leak oil from the tubes. The earlier head lets you pull lifters with the head in place. In my view is is six of one, half a dozen of the other. I would pick the head in the best shape and go with that one. |

Thanks for the response Reed. Both heads have been cleaned, machined, valve job, etc. I'm kind of leaning towards the early head. Hmm... |

Okay, right now, I have a Weber 38DGES 2bbl carb on an Offy intake, with an adapter. Its been a good carb, however, I'm been thinking about going to a simpler intake and carb combo. I recently scored a factory super six intake, iron, with a possibly rebuildable Carter bbd. I also have a factory aluminum 1bbl intake, with no carb. I like the idea of having a good Carter bbd again, but I also like the potential weight savings of the 1bbl aluminum intake. Hmm... |

I'd take the Offy off your hands if you decide to ditch it. I have some core BBDs I could help sweeten the deal with. |

Okay, I will keep that in mind. This particular Offy intake has been modified a bit; heli coil inserts, and double ended studs where the adapter bolts to. I also had it "Jet Hot" coated years ago. I have one reman bbd in my garage, not sure of its condition. You have first dibs Reed, if I go that way. |

No worries. I am totally cheap so I am sure it will be out of my price range. But if you need a core bbd, let me know. |
