Hello, Are there external cues that distinguish a 198 from a 225 cu.in. Slant six? Or just bore /stroke? 1972 valiant. |

There is the engine ID number stamped on the pad on the lip on the block immediately behind the alternator and under the coil mounting bracket. |

If it has not been milled off during a rebuild.

Keep in mind also that the 198 and the 225 use the same block (the difference is crank & rods) so there's a chance the stampings won't match the actuality. If you're sure the engine you're looking at has never been "remanufactured", then the stamping will tell you what kind of engine you're looking at. |
