Ok, I have a head that was shaved .060 and when I put this on my 65 engine, I had problems in the pushrod - rocker arm adjuster area. With the adjuster screw backed out, a couple of the pushrods tended to pop out as there was apparently interference there. I corrected the problem by shimming the rocker shaft up with copper washers. I would prefer not spacing the rocker shaft so I was wondering if anyone has used shortened pushrods. Did they make their own or buy them? Is there a better alternative? I wonder because the deck has now been shaved and this will probably require more shimming. I am especially concerned as I will be swapping the stock cam out for something with more lift. I don't want the engine coming apart at the track if I can help that.

Wait until you swap cams because your new cam may have a reduced base circle which could make your present pushrods ok again. If not you can measure and order pushrods from Smith Brothers or Manton.

just wondering (out of ignorance) if the lifters could be machined shorter to achieve the same length?

Not likely, the bottoms of the lifters have a radius ground on them, so unless you have an expensive precision grinder that can produce the radius on them, the shorter pushrods are the better solution.
