While I wait for a reply on a set of dutras I have a question to the folks who are running them or have run them. What kind of system did you run down stream of the manifold (ie. Y pipe, dual exhaust all the way back etc.)? What muffler or glass pack did you run and what did it sound like? And what kind of power gains did you see?

I ran dual 2" pipe all the way to the bumper, with thrush welded mufflers. It droned fairly bad, and had a tinney sound, so I installed 12" glasspacks in the tailpipe as a form of resonators. Helped some, deepened the sound quite a bit too. Sounded similar to a small v8 at idle, with a very unique cackle at WOT. Didn't mind the way it was but I'm considering switching to Borla for the mufflers and a higher quality resonator.

As for performance increase, couldn't tell ya. I swapped out a worn out slant for a fresh one (albeit mild and poorly tuned) at the same time.

Dual exhaust that feeds into a y pipe by the transmission, then single 2.5" into a smithy's glass pack and 2.25" the rest of the way. Has a deep tone. I've been told it's a bit loud but I am deaf, so it doesn't bother me unless I have hearing aids in. Which I usually don't. World is much more peaceful that way.

Years ago, I test drove a '66 Valiant with a glass pack for a muffler. It droned so horribly, that I didn't buy the car. Too bad... otherwise it was a really nice car.

On my Dutra install, I used 2" pipes to a fabricated Y pipe near the steering box, and 2" pipe back to a higher quality muffler, and then 2" back to the rear valance. It is so quiet at stop lights, I have to check the volt meter to make sure it's still running.

Is it fast? Dunno. Maybe I'll check this summer at the track.

I dont have duras but I want to put my two cents in here. If you dont care bout loudness and want an aggressive tone I would look at this. http://classicchambered.com/index.html

I have headers and no mufflers just straight pipes but it dosent sound as good as this....

What to put in depends on your goal. If you want to make noise, you run duals all the way back. If you want optimal engine performance and efficiency, you don't.

That is fine for the track, but on the freeway I bet you can't hear the guy sitting next to you. And most tracks have noise limits anymore. I think Portland has 102 db at from 50 feet away. Laguna Seca is even quieter. You know how it is.... Build an expensive home near the track, and then complain about the noise.

I know if the car in that vid was my next door neighbor.... ... ... he wouldn't need to buy potatos

Thanks for the input. I want something that will make a little noise but nothing too obnoxious. More interested in power gains.

Buy a stock muffler for your vehicle but for a larger engine. I see you have a truck. Order a muffler for a truck with a 360.

What is the advantage to that?

It's a well-made, effective, long-lasting stainless steel truck muffler with good flow. Ask Reed, he's used it, too.
