Ok, so I am planning the parts to reassemble the engine when I get it back from the machine shop. I had read on another post that milling the head and block will require studs replacing the head bolts. I have a total of about .130 milled from the head/block. I'd hate to buy studs if I don't need them. I'd rather spend the money elsewhere. Has anyone had problems using stock head bolts in setups like this? |

You can use head bolt washers and stack 2 if needed, but 1 should do. Get a set for small block Chevy and you will have plenty. ![]() |

You do not need head studs. The bolts are plenty strong at least up to 12:1 and can be reused as long as they are not plastically deformed (drastically overtorqued). In most cases, you won't need the washers either, but that can vary block to block. I have never used washers (up to 0.200" mill) and I guess I've been lucky. Lou |

Thanks Lou, I'll see what happens without them, but I ordered some .110 thick ARP washers just in case. |
