So the connector on the under dash wiring harness has lost the plastic center locating pin? Is that correct? As I see it, all that piece does is help you to correctly align the plug onto the very delicate pins of the dash circuit board. As long as you have oriented the connector correctly, electrons should flow where they are supposed to. But be sure of correct orientation! Maybe make some visual reference on the connector and circuit board. |

An idea I have been wanting to try out on old Mopars is to splice in a connector in the wiring harness to the instrument cluster circuit board so the factory round connector could stay permanently attached to the circuit board when the cluster was removed. There are many options for connectors that could be spliced into the loom. If the round plug stayed plugged into the circuit board, there would be no more worries about the pins breaking off. Of course, on many installations the round plug has to come off to clear the dash housing if the instrument cluster needs to be removed, so adding a plug might not actually help anything. |

That's a good idea my problem is when I hit a pothole the plug comes off so maybe I'll crimp the connectors on the pins a little harder. Thanks for the idea. |
