Hi I am considering purchasing the- Ram Man's 14" -drum to disc brake conversion kit- appx $1000 -- 68 Dart 270
My original drum brakes are the worst - not safe - wont stay in adjustment
I would appreciate any info / feedback concerning these kits and experiences with Mr Ram man. His sales pitch and videos are pretty impressive. Im just curious if this is a "Thumbs-Up" operation....Has anyone purchased one of his kits and do they perform well? Would you recommend them? OR any suggestions on where i can find a top notch conversion kit for-- 14" rallye wheels with (SBP)- 4" BOLT PATTERN?

UPDATE--I sprung for the $1000 Ram Mans complete kit that would fit my 68 dart slant 6---with-4" -SBP- (small bolt pattern) / Manuel Brakes and my new 14" rallye wheels. This kit contains heavy roaters which are easily available for replacement--a Huge Plus! After 1000 miles of care-free perfect stopping and handling, my opinion of the Ram Mans conversion kit is--My Dart drives like a dream. Clearly you get what you pay for. I couldnt be happier.

I didn't end up buying his kit, but I considered it. When I called to ask about it, it took him a few days to get back to me, but he did call back. I ended up sourcing my own used and new parts, but the total cost was pretty close to what he was asking, which was $620 at the time (he's changed his web site and I can't see any products now, only videos). My situation was a little different because I have a '74 which already has the larger upper control arms/ball joints needed for the disk brakes. So I didn't need the ball joint adapter sleeve that he includes in his kit.

For comparison, people seem to like the Scarebird kits for the 1972-down A-bodies which allow you to keep the 4" bolt pattern, and Dr. Diff has a good price on a kit but I'm not sure the bolt pattern.

For what it's worth TRM has mixed reviews at the A-body forum.

I can't see any kit/parts lists on his site and am not willing to sit through videos to see what kits might include. What a weird way to do business. $1000 is a lot for a front disc conversion, in my book, but it depends on what is included. Better be some nice parts...

I have had many dealings with DrDiff and he and his parts are fantastic. He is great on the phone too. You may pay a little more (or not?), but he delivers the goods, in my experience. I have bought axle parts, center sections, and a rear 11.7" Cobra disc kit from him - all great.

Ram Man comes up on Moparts every now and then over his work on rebuilding brake boosters. Biggest issues seem to be incomplete instructions and poor customer relations. :oops:

His work and kits seem to be very good as far as I have seen. Brake kits are getting pretty pricey.

His crush sleeve approach to larger spindles with smaller ball joints seems like it should be fine from a materials engineering standpoint. If you compare new cars to these old units, even the small ball joints and spindles, the old ones are way stronger.

I too was considering using his parts, but eventually couldn't pass up the nearly $300 savings using the ebay (Chinese made) front disc conversion kit. The kit I bought was only $350, didn't include ball joints. I don't see those advertised any longer. I believe they added ball joints and jacked up the price to make more money. Anyway, the quality was quite good for Chinese made materials. No issues so far with 2000 miles on them.
