curious to see if it is possible to replace the slant six in my 66 Dodge Van, A 100, with a more modern, 6 cylinder or so?

Thank you for your opinion and assistance. :?

BMW engines slant that way. You had best be good with electrical systems and mechanical fabrication to use one of the EFI engines and most anything you'd want to use is EFI. Could do a Volvo turbo 4 cylinder, but there's not much place on an A van for an intercooler. If you want a more modern van of that size see about a Toyota. They already have EFI, disc brakes, etc.

A 66 A series van, if equipped with an automatic transmission, would have the adapter plate necessary to mate the slant six to a smallblock transmission. Given that the transmission in the van (if automatic and original) has the smallblock bolt pattern on the bellhousing, a swap to a later model Mopar 3.9 truck v-6 would be fairly straightforward, even a TBI or Magnum MPFI version. The hardest part would be the electronics and fuel supply, but even those wouldn't be too difficult. Since the A series vans came with 273s and 318s, one could use the factory A series motor mounts and accessories on the 3.9.
