What are these holes for in these pictures? They were completely clogged.

In your first pic, that's the air injection port, the larger of the two holes. The smaller one next to it is threaded to accept the bolt that holds the air injection pipe flange to the head. If you're not using air injection in the vehicle you're building this engine for, then obtain a blockoff plate part № 3751 249 and gasket 4275 834 (the gasket is available aftermarket; the plate is not).

As for that other hole in your 2nd and 3rd pics: No idea; never seen one like it.

Those second two holes had small freeze plugs in them. I drilled them out and those too were clogged. I am gonna put new freeze plugs in them.

Those second two holes look like they just go into the rocker arm area of the head. It that is the case, I have never seen this and can not think of any practical use for it.

I ran brake cleaner through them and it came out either the exhaust or intake manifold holes in the center

The oblong arrangement in your first photo is indeed the smog pump attachment. You will need to block it off or it will be the source of a lot of noise and exhaust! I used a small freeze plug hammered in there and it's lasted a dozen years, but you could use a block off plate.

As for the holes in the other pictures, I have never seen them before. Intriguing.

Post subject:  You can also...

The rear arrangement can be for the air pump, or in some late 70's vehicles the air charge tube...if a plate isn't available or you can't have one made, in a pinch, you can cut the tube off a few inches from the flange and smash it flat then fold it over a few times, and reinstall with the correct gasket to plug the hole...not the prettiest way to go, but will do the job until you find what you need...

I'm not sure. Very well could be.

I'm pretty sure, the holes in the end of the head, are for the internal common "runner" for the air injection system. I have a couple of heads with them, but would have to dig them out to double check.

I think you're right Charlie. That would make sense on why air came out the exhaust port.
