Fellas,
Anybody ever use the Crane S-264 grind? Specs:lift @valve .434.
IO-26bdtc IC- 59 ABDC EO 69BBDC EC 16 ATDC Duration-265. OV-42

If you have, how much carburation did you use. MAybe this is my source of my idle issues. Too much cam for that little 1bbl idle circuit maybe??

I was hoping to just wake it up a little, maybe I've done too much.

Thanks,

Tim

Normally idle problems with a bigger cam come from too much fuel, not too much air. The increased duration requires more idle speed, which require the throttle blades to opened further. This exposes more of the idle transfer slot where the idle fuel is added. This allows too much fuel/air ratio. Fixes are to drill bleeds or the throttle blades to let in more air without adding more fuel.
Your low vaccum is not a result of a bad idle. Your bad idle is most likely a result of low vaccum.
As Doc said, can be cam is several degrees out. Do a compression check, this Crane cam should same numbers as a stock cam.

I had that cam in my motor since 1977, untill last year. Never could get it to idle below 1000 rpm. I always thought it was, my carb, having too large barrels. Ran the holley 4412, 500 cfm 2 bbl.

I have also had trouble getting good idle quality out of the Crane grinds. On paper they do not look that "hot" but in use they have a choppy idle and need a pretty wide lash.
Get some cranking compression (cylinder pressure) numbers, that will help us figure-out what is happening.
